Fabulous Fish
Fish is very good for you. Fish is low-fat and is a good quality protein, filled with vitamins like riboflavin (Vitamin B2), which aids the body in the metabolism of amino acids, fatty acids, and carbohydrates and Vitamin D, which aids calcium absorption. Fish is also rich in calcium and phosphorus and a great source of minerals, such as iron, zinc, potassium (a mineral needed for muscles, nerves and fluid balance in the body), iodine and magnesium. However, eating deep-fried fish dipped in tartar sauce is not going to be very healthy and nutritious. Perfectly cooked fish should flake easily and be opaque with just the faintest amount of translucency in the middle. Fish is so delicate that it dries out quickly and is easy to overcook.
Here are some cooking tips.
No matter which one of these cooking methods you use or which flavour combinations you prefer, you will find that fresh, moist, perfectly cooked fish is exquisite fish!
Here are some cooking tips.
- To prevent overcooking, you'll need to pull it out slightly before it's done.
- In order to retain its moisture, fish needs to be cooked quickly over high heat (grilling, broiling, or sautéing), or it needs to be cooked with liquid.
- When poaching or simmering fillets, don't allow the liquid to boil, as this will break up the tender meat.
- To prevent fish fillets from sticking to the grill, place them on a layer of aluminum foil.
- Marinating can give fish extra flavor and help prevent drying out
- Microwave cooking is an excellent way to preserve the delicate flavor and texture of fish; cooking time is minimal and the fish stays moist.
- Fish is most flavorful when served hot, immediately after cooking.
