Promote Longevity
To feel better physically and mentally, we need to make good health-promoting lifestyle choices.
What you choose to eat, drink or otherwise ingest, how much you sleep and how active you choose to be can significantly impact both your health and longevity.
Getting regular and adequate amounts of sleep is important as during sleep, your body produces essential hormones to repair and rejuvenate your brain and body.
The problem is that many of us don’t get the quantity or more importantly, the quality of sleep that allows a full recharge.

- Stop smoking now, or better yet, don’t even start. Smoking can bring on a whole host of health problems, many of which are very serious. Tobacco addiction is probably one of the most difficult habits to overcome.
- Drink alcohol in moderation. Excessive alcohol consumption (more than 2 drinks a day for men, one for women), can lead to heart disease, high blood pressure and other health problems. Overdoing it can ruin relationships, careers, and safety of yourself and others.
- Drink water. Make sure you are getting at least 8 glasses a day to keep your body hydrated. Try and substitute fizzy drinks with water.
- Exercise regularly. Thirty minutes a day of regular physical activity contributes to health by reducing the heart rate, decreasing the risk for cardiovascular disease and premature death.
- Protect yourself all year round from damaging rays by wearing sunscreen and protective clothing. Sunscreens limit the damage the sun can cause to your skin. (premature aging, skin cancer, cataracts) Remember when applying sunscreens, the higher the number the better. This will provide a broad spectrum protection from both ultraviolet A (UVA) as well as ultraviolet B (UVB).
- Eating more complex carbohydrates, fruits and vegetable, omega-3 fatty acids and eating less can help promote good health and longevity. Five or more servings of fruit and vegetables, low fat dairy products and plenty of whole grains daily.
- Eating regular well-balanced meals, including breakfast can help provide energy, lower risks for certain diseases--heart disease, hypertension, diabetes and cancers--while maintaining a normal weight.
- Maintain a healthy weight. Constantly losing and gaining large amounts of weight puts stress on your body, so keep your weight at a healthy place without the fluctuations.
- Manage stress. Keep your stress at a manageable level. By learning to manage your stress effectively, you’ll lead a happier, more relaxed lifestyle.
